Programme Intern – APRA Implementation Office
Role Purpose
The Programme Intern provides multidisciplinary research, analytical, administrative, and coordination support to the APRA Implementation Office. The role contributes to evidence-based programme implementation through research, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, communications, knowledge management, and programme coordination activities that support APRA's strategic objectives.
Working under the guidance of experienced professionals, the intern assists in preparing research outputs, supporting partnerships, coordinating events, maintaining knowledge resources, and contributing to programme delivery. Assignments are aligned, where possible, with the intern's academic background, skills, and career interests while providing practical exposure to international development, renewable energy, climate action, and regional cooperation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research, Data Collection and Policy Analysis
The Programme Intern supports research activities that inform programme planning and decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
Conduct desk research using credible government, academic, institutional, and international sources.
Collect, validate, and organize quantitative and qualitative data.
Perform literature reviews and background research on assigned topics.
Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and policy implications.
Support the preparation of research reports, country profiles, briefing papers, concept notes, and analytical summaries.
Assist in developing evidence-based recommendations to support programme objectives.
Maintain accurate records of research findings and supporting references.
2. Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement
The role supports the development and management of strategic partnerships.
Responsibilities include:
Assist in stakeholder mapping and partner identification.
Support the preparation of stakeholder profiles and engagement plans.
Coordinate meetings with government agencies, development partners, research institutions, and other stakeholders.
Draft correspondence, meeting agendas, and briefing materials.
Maintain stakeholder databases and contact records.
Support partnership-building activities and stakeholder consultations.
Follow up on agreed action points from meetings and engagements.
3. Communications and Knowledge Management
The Programme Intern contributes to internal and external communication activities while supporting organizational knowledge management.
Responsibilities include:
Draft and edit briefing notes, presentations, newsletters, reports, and communication materials.
Prepare content for websites, newsletters, and social media platforms.
Maintain project repositories, document libraries, and knowledge management systems.
Organize electronic files and ensure proper document version control.
Support the preparation of communication products for technical and non-technical audiences.
Ensure information accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality across all documentation.
Assist in maintaining organizational calendars and shared information resources.
4. Programme Coordination and Administrative Support
The role supports the implementation of programme activities and operational coordination.
Responsibilities include:
Assist in coordinating programme activities and project implementation.
Support preparation of work plans, progress reports, and activity schedules.
Monitor assigned tasks and follow up on action items.
Maintain programme documentation and operational records.
Coordinate logistics for programme activities and meetings.
Provide general administrative support to the implementation office.
Perform other duties assigned in support of programme operations.
5. Event Planning and Logistics
The Programme Intern assists in organizing meetings, workshops, and stakeholder events.
Responsibilities include:
Support planning and coordination of workshops, conferences, consultations, and meetings.
Prepare invitations, agendas, participant lists, and meeting materials.
Assist with venue coordination and logistical arrangements.
Prepare presentations and supporting documentation.
Record meeting minutes and monitor implementation of agreed action points.
Support post-event reporting and documentation.
Maintain records of programme events and participant feedback.
6. Learning and Professional Development
The internship provides practical exposure to international development and programme management.
Responsibilities include:
Participate actively in mentorship, coaching, and professional development activities.
Build practical research, analytical, and communication skills.
Develop an understanding of international cooperation and policy processes.
Learn programme management and stakeholder engagement practices.

Academic Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university, be enrolled in a postgraduate programme, or have graduated within the last three (3) years before the internship commencement date.

Experience
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
No prior professional experience is required.
Academic, volunteer, research, extracurricular, or internship experience in research, policy analysis, communications, programme support, international relations, or knowledge management will be an added advantage.
Strong report writing, analytical, presentation, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and collaboration tools.
Familiarity with analytical tools such as Advanced Excel, R, Python, SQL, Power BI, or Tableau will be an added advantage.
Experience using communication and design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems, or social media platforms will be an added advantage.
Demonstrated interest in international development, renewable energy, climate action, green industrialization, economic transformation, or African regional cooperation is desirable.
