About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and well-organized Project Consultant (Part-time) to oversee and coordinate an exciting project from start to finish. The successful candidate will take charge of project planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Reporting to the Senior Program Officer – MEL, the consultant will help ensure that all project activities are delivered effectively and within the agreed timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Create and maintain a comprehensive project plan covering schedules, budgets, staffing, and other required resources.
Identify and engage reputable universities across 20 African countries to serve as National Nominating Bodies (NNBs).
Maintain regular communication with registered NNBs and provide the information, guidance, and support they require.
Plan and conduct at least one live webinar annually to facilitate engagement between the AAS and NNBs.
Coordinate communication and collaboration among the AAS, FRF, and participating NNBs.
Support the participation of African scientists in relevant AAS conferences, programs, and other initiatives.
Design and implement approaches aimed at increasing awareness of the FPP among scientists across Africa.
Track project implementation, identify challenges, and introduce necessary adjustments to keep activities on course.
Compile and submit reports covering project activities, progress, and results.
Oversee the responsible and efficient use of the project budget.
Take initiative and work independently while meeting agreed deadlines and deliverables.
Collaborate closely with the Office of the Executive Director on project-related activities.
Qualifications and Experience
A Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
Applicants with significant experience conducting independent economic research or analysis may also be considered.
At least five years of experience in project management.
Previous experience overseeing projects within an international environment is highly desirable.
Good knowledge of project planning and management approaches.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
Capacity to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Experience working across a regional or multi-country setting will be an added advantage.
Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
Knowledge of French is an added advantage.
