Registered Nurse – Full-Time
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Salary: $60,000 – $95,000 per year
Sign-On Bonus: $3,000

About the Position
Illinois Cancer Specialists is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing care to patients in accordance with established clinical standards, company policies, and specialty-specific regulations.
The successful candidate should understand the physiological, psychological, developmental, and age-related needs of patients ranging from late adolescence through adulthood and older age. The nurse will work closely with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to assess patients, coordinate treatment, and address the needs of patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care while maintaining continuity throughout the patient’s treatment.
Obtain patient information through interviews, health assessments, and reviews of medical history.
Document nursing assessments, interventions, treatments, and patient responses accurately.
Review laboratory results, imaging findings, physical examinations, and psychosocial assessments and communicate significant findings to the treating provider.
Provide emotional and psychosocial support to patients and their families.
Protect patient privacy and maintain strict confidentiality of medical information.
Prepare and administer prescribed treatments under physician supervision.
Safely administer medications and blood products while verifying the correct product, dose, route, timing, and administration technique.
Confirm required authorizations and patient consent before administering applicable treatments.
Support treatment adjustments by evaluating the patient’s condition and laboratory results, reviewing treatment protocols, calculating appropriate doses, and consulting with the physician regarding modifications or symptom-related concerns.
Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central venous catheter devices as required.
Maintain complete and accurate records of patient care and treatments.
Apply appropriate reimbursement and charge-capture procedures.
Keep clinical and supply areas organized and adequately stocked.
Follow OSHA requirements when handling cytotoxic medications, biohazardous materials, and substances that may contain bloodborne pathogens.
Follow established cleaning, sanitation, and disinfection procedures.
Maintain medical equipment in accordance with quality-control requirements.
Manage medication refill requests received through the pharmacy telephone line and document relevant information in patient records.
Assist physicians during examinations and clinical procedures.
Respond to patient telephone calls, assess or triage concerns when appropriate, and document relevant details.
Coordinate communication among patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team.
Help patients identify and access appropriate community-based resources.
Support clinical research activities when required.
Serve as a clinical resource for LPNs/LVNs and medical assistants.
Provide mentoring, preceptorship, and day-to-day support to less experienced nursing staff.
Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain current oncology nursing knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
Education and Licensure
Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
Active Registered Nurse license and current registration with the applicable State Board of Nursing.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Ability to meet all required continuing education obligations.
Professional Experience
Three to five years of nursing experience.
At least one year of oncology nursing experience is preferred.
Additional Skills
Oncology nursing certification is preferred.
Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and patient-care skills are essential.
Working Environment
The role is performed in an oncology and hematology clinical setting where employees may encounter communicable illnesses, hazardous substances, medical preparations, ionizing radiation, and other conditions associated with cancer care.

Physical Requirements
Ability to perform a full range of physical movements necessary for patient care, including assisting with and lifting patients.
Good manual and finger dexterity along with effective hand-eye coordination.
Ability to remain standing and walking for extended periods.
Occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
Corrected hearing and vision must be within the normal functional range.
