Key Primary Responsibilities
Research & Market Intelligence
Track and analyze macroeconomic trends, market movements, and corporate developments across both listed and unlisted companies within the investment landscape.
Develop forecasts for short- and long-term macroeconomic indicators such as GDP growth, inflation, interest rates, and foreign exchange rates, as well as industry trends and company-level financial performance, supported by clear drivers of performance.
Collect, evaluate, and synthesize market intelligence from both primary and secondary sources to inform investment and fund management decisions.
Review earnings announcements, financial statements, and regulatory filings, and participate in analyst briefings and meetings with company management teams to gain deeper insights.
Academic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Investment Analysis, Actuarial Science, or Commerce (with a finance specialization).
A Master’s degree such as an MBA or MSc in Finance will be considered an added advantage.
Job Skills and Requirements
Technical Skills
Advanced skills in financial modelling and valuation techniques, including DCF, comparable company analysis, and fixed-income analytics.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with platforms such as Bloomberg, Reuters, or similar financial data systems is an advantage.
Familiarity with portfolio management tools and performance attribution systems.
Strong understanding of East African and broader African capital markets, including regulatory frameworks and macroeconomic trends.
Behavioral Competencies
Strong analytical rigor with the ability to interpret complex, multi-source data and draw clear, evidence-based insights.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present investment ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
High intellectual curiosity and a proactive approach to tracking market developments and emerging industry trends.
Strong ethical standards, with strict adherence to regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under pressure.
High attention to detail, particularly in financial modeling, reporting, and data validation.
Professional Qualifications
Progress toward or completion of the CFA designation is highly preferred.
Additional certifications such as CISI, ACI, or other capital markets qualifications are an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in investment research, buy-side or sell-side analysis, portfolio management support, or a closely related financial services role.
Proven ability to build financial models and produce high-quality investment research reports.
Exposure to East African capital markets will be a strong advantage.
