Retail Store Manager
Role Purpose
The Retail Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the store to ensure efficient service delivery, profitability, and an exceptional customer experience. The role provides leadership to store staff, manages inventory and merchandising, monitors sales performance, and ensures compliance with company policies and operational standards. The Retail Store Manager is accountable for achieving sales targets, maintaining optimal stock levels, controlling operational costs, and creating a productive work environment that supports business growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Store Operations Management
The Retail Store Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the store.
Key responsibilities include:
Plan, organize, and oversee daily store operations.
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Monitor store performance and implement strategies to improve efficiency.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shopping environment.
Ensure all departments operate effectively to support customer satisfaction.
Address operational challenges promptly to minimize business disruptions.
Coordinate store opening and closing procedures.
2. Sales and Business Performance
The role is responsible for driving sales growth and achieving business objectives.
Responsibilities include:
Develop strategies to achieve sales and profitability targets.
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance.
Analyze sales reports and identify opportunities to improve revenue.
Promote products through merchandising and promotional activities.
Monitor pricing and ensure product displays support sales objectives.
Recommend initiatives that increase customer traffic and sales.
Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions where necessary.
3. Customer Service Management
The Retail Store Manager ensures customers receive excellent service throughout their shopping experience.
Responsibilities include:

Conduct regular stock counts and inventory reconciliations.
Minimize stock losses, damage, and shrinkage.
Monitor product expiry dates where applicable.
Coordinate inventory transfers between stores or departments.
Maintain accurate inventory records using retail management systems.
6. Financial and Cash Management
The Retail Store Manager is responsible for maintaining financial controls within the store.

Monitor daily sales and cash collections.
Ensure accurate cash handling and banking procedures.
Reconcile Point of Sale (POS) transactions.

The Retail Store Manager promotes compliance with company policies and operational standards.
Responsibilities include:
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Academic Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Marketing, Commerce, or another related field from a recognized institution.
Professional qualifications in retail management or business management will be an added advantage.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in retail operations.
At least two (2) years of experience in a supervisory or management role, preferably within a supermarket or large retail environment.
Practical experience managing store operations, staff, inventory, and customer service.
Experience using Point of Sale (POS) systems and Retail Management software.
Experience preparing operational and sales performance reports.
Demonstrated ability to achieve sales targets and manage store performance effectively.
