STEM SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT TOM MBOYA UNIVERSITY
Tom Mboya University (TMU) is inviting applications from suitably qualified Kenyan citizens for scholarship opportunities in selected STEM fields.
The scholarships are supported by financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the Government of Kenya's State Department for Higher Education under the Support to Higher Education Science, Technology Phase II Project.
The project aims to improve the relevance and equitable access to quality higher education, training, and research in STEM fields while supporting inclusive economic growth and employment in Kenya by 2030.
Through this initiative, the Government of Kenya, working through Tom Mboya University, intends to use part of the available financing to support postgraduate scholarships in selected STEM programmes.
The scholarships will support candidates pursuing Master's or Ph.D. programmes in the following areas:
Civil Engineering
Marine Engineering
Information Technology (IT)
The programmes funded under the scholarship are scheduled to commence in August 2026.
Scholarship Package
Successful candidates will receive financial support covering:
Tuition fees for the duration of the approved programme.
Research costs for the duration of study.
The scholarship opportunities are open to Kenyan citizens who meet the age and academic requirements.
Successful candidates will also be engaged by the University as either Graduate Assistants or Tutorial Fellows, depending on their academic qualifications and the applicable position.
1. Civil Engineering
Tom Mboya University invites applications from qualified candidates interested in pursuing postgraduate studies in Civil Engineering under the STEM scholarship programme.
The opportunity is suitable for candidates who wish to advance their academic qualifications while gaining professional and academic experience through engagement as Graduate Assistants or Tutorial Fellows.
Academic Requirements

Graduate Assistant
Candidates applying as Graduate Assistants must have:
A relevant Bachelor's Degree.
A minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division).

Tutorial Fellow

Tutorial Fellow
Applicants seeking consideration as Tutorial Fellows must have:
A relevant Master's Degree.
A qualification from a recognized and accredited university.

3. Information Technology (IT)
Tom Mboya University is also offering scholarship opportunities for qualified candidates interested in postgraduate studies in Information Technology.
The scholarship will provide successful candidates with financial support for their studies while allowing them to gain academic and professional experience through engagement as Graduate Assistants or Tutorial Fellows.
Academic Requirements
Graduate Assistant
Applicants must have:
A relevant Bachelor's Degree.
A minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division).
A degree obtained from a recognized and accredited university.
Tutorial Fellow
Applicants must have:
A relevant Master's Degree.
A qualification obtained from a recognized and accredited university.

General Eligibility Requirements
The following conditions apply to the scholarship opportunities:
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens.
Applicants must be below 30 years of age.
Graduate Assistant applicants must hold a relevant Bachelor's Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division).
Tutorial Fellow applicants must hold a relevant Master's Degree.
Academic qualifications must be obtained from recognized and accredited universities.
Candidates must meet the admission requirements for the relevant Master's or Ph.D. programme.

Progression to Ph.D. Studies
Candidates who successfully complete the Master's programme under the scholarship will be expected to transition to Ph.D. studies under the scholarship programme.
Applicants should therefore be prepared to commit to continued postgraduate study and meet the academic requirements for progression to the Ph.D. programme.

The scholarship-supported studies will be undertaken at partner universities outside Kenya.
