Key Duties and Responsibilities
Promote and safeguard the physical and emotional well-being of students and staff by delivering first-aid services, addressing minor health concerns and injuries, managing medical emergencies, administering prescribed medications, and maintaining secure and confidential health records.
Provide support to learners with specific medical conditions and ensure their healthcare needs are appropriately managed within the school environment.
Encourage preventive healthcare practices through awareness programs on personal hygiene, disease prevention, nutrition, mental health, and overall wellness, while facilitating referrals to external healthcare professionals when necessary.
Collaborate closely with students, parents, teachers, school leadership, healthcare practitioners, and public health authorities to foster a safe, healthy, and supportive educational setting.
Assist in identifying and monitoring health-related risks, maintaining adequate medical supplies, implementing school health procedures, and ensuring compliance with emergency response and child safeguarding protocols.
Lead and coordinate school-based health screening initiatives and wellness programs, ensuring familiarity with referral pathways and healthcare support services.
Conduct health education sessions for students and staff on topics such as healthy lifestyles, proper nutrition, personal hygiene, and disease prevention.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized university or accredited nursing institution.
Valid registration and licensing with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
A minimum of two to three years of nursing experience, preferably gained in a school, pediatric, adolescent health, community health, or similar healthcare setting.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
Demonstrated commitment to professional ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.
Sound understanding of child growth and development, including common health concerns associated with different developmental stages.
Competence in providing first aid and managing routine illnesses and minor injuries among children and adolescents.
