Senior Cyber Security Specialist

Position Overview

The Senior Cyber Security Specialist will play a key role in safeguarding the organisation's technology environment, information systems and digital assets from evolving cyber threats. This position will provide technical leadership across vulnerability management, security controls, threat response and incident handling, helping strengthen operational resilience and minimise cybersecurity-related business disruption.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate, assess and validate reported cybersecurity events, vulnerabilities and potential risks.

• Examine the operational and business consequences of security control weaknesses or failures and support appropriate corrective action.

• Establish, track and report relevant cybersecurity metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) within the assigned area.

• Take an active role in responding to security incidents, including providing technical direction and assistance to junior security personnel.

• Translate technical security issues into clear business-impact information and present practical remediation recommendations to relevant decision-makers.

• Contribute to the development, review, maintenance and approval of cybersecurity procedures, controls and security solutions.

• Monitor the changing threat landscape, emerging attack techniques and industry practices to identify opportunities for proactive risk reduction.

• Support initiatives relating to disaster recovery, business continuity and wider organisational resilience.

• Work collaboratively with IT, infrastructure, operations and other business functions to coordinate security activities and ensure effective incident and risk management.

• Assist in strengthening the organisation's overall security posture through continuous assessment and improvement of existing controls.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and professional experience.

• At least four years of relevant professional experience, with a minimum of five years in positions such as Cyber Security Engineer, Security Analyst, Systems Administrator or a closely related security role.

• Advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

• Strong understanding of computer networking, operating systems, security architecture and cybersecurity technologies.

• Hands-on experience deploying, managing or administering security solutions such as:

  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms

  • Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)

  • Network and application firewalls

  • Endpoint security and protection platforms

  • Microsoft 365 and/or Google Workspace security environments

• Working knowledge of cloud security concepts and technologies across platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform.

• Familiarity with recognised cybersecurity regulations, frameworks and standards, including GDPR, HIPAA, NIST and ISO standards.

• Practical knowledge of security automation and scripting using Python, PowerShell or comparable scripting languages.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, with the confidence to assess complex security issues and communicate recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
