Senior Software Engineer – Payouts

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer – Payouts to design, develop, and enhance the systems that power secure, reliable, and scalable payment disbursements across Africa. The successful candidate will play a key role in building and maintaining payout products that enable seamless transfers to merchants, beneficiaries, and business partners while ensuring high standards of security, compliance, and operational excellence.

As a senior member of the engineering team, you will lead the delivery of complex technical initiatives, mentor engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and collaborate closely with Product, Operations, and other cross-functional teams to deliver innovative payment solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Software Development & Product Delivery

• Design, develop, and deploy new payout features across backend and full-stack applications.

• Enhance and maintain existing payout services to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.

• Translate business and technical requirements into secure, high-quality software solutions.

• Deliver software that meets performance, security, and compliance standards.

• Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, from solution design to deployment and ongoing support.

2. System Architecture & Engineering

• Design scalable, resilient, and maintainable software architectures for payment and disbursement systems.

• Develop cloud-native applications and microservices using modern engineering practices.

• Optimize system performance, reliability, and availability across production environments.

• Contribute to architectural reviews and technical decision-making.

• Promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and software quality across the team.

3. Payment Processing & Integrations

• Develop and maintain payout processing workflows and payment integrations.

• Build secure APIs and backend services that support merchant integrations and payment orchestration.

• Ensure payout systems comply with security, regulatory, and operational requirements.

• Support integration with internal platforms and third-party payment providers.

• Improve payout tracking, reconciliation, and operational visibility.

4. Incident Management & Production Support

• Monitor production systems to ensure platform stability and optimal performance.

• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve application incidents using logs, monitoring platforms, and code analysis.

• Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective solutions.

• Participate in production support and incident response activities where required.

• Continuously improve system observability and operational resilience.

5. Technical Leadership & Mentorship

• Lead complex technical initiatives from solution design through successful implementation.

• Mentor software engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and pair programming.

• Provide constructive feedback that supports continuous learning and professional development.

• Promote knowledge sharing and engineering excellence across the development team.

• Support technical planning, estimation, and delivery of strategic engineering projects.

6. DevOps & Continuous Delivery

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.

• Improve development workflows through automation and infrastructure optimization.

• Collaborate with DevOps teams to maintain secure and efficient cloud infrastructure.

• Support infrastructure-as-code and serverless deployment practices.

• Ensure software releases are stable, secure, and well-documented.

7. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity while maintaining software quality and security.

• Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements that enhance platform capabilities.

• Identify opportunities to simplify architecture, reduce technical debt, and improve developer experience.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen engineering processes and product innovation.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

Relevant professional certifications in AWS, Cloud Computing, Software Engineering, or DevOps will be an added advantage.

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

• Minimum seven (7) years' experience in cloud-based software engineering.

• Strong backend development experience with exposure to full-stack application development.

• Experience building scalable distributed systems in cloud environments.

• Experience developing payment platforms, financial applications, or transaction processing systems is highly desirable.

• Proven experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineering teams.
