Job Summary
The Lead Corporate Communications Specialist will work as part of the Corporate Communications team and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen CenterPoint Energy's reputation, brand, and commitment to the communities and environment it serves.
This position will take a leading role in planning, developing, and delivering internal and external communications across the company's operating footprint. The successful candidate will apply effective communication practices, protect the company's reputation, and identify opportunities to strengthen its public image.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the primary Corporate Communications contact for the assigned region and provide strategic communication advice, recommend appropriate approaches, and assess the effectiveness of communication activities.
Advise corporate executives, business leaders, colleagues, and other stakeholders on communication strategies that support organizational objectives.
Develop and execute comprehensive internal and external communication plans, including messaging, communication channels, schedules, strategies, and performance measurement.
Create and implement communication programs that support major business priorities and effectively communicate the company's services, capabilities, and objectives to important audiences.
Develop communication strategies supporting regulatory and government affairs activities while communicating issues relevant to the company's business interests.
Represent CenterPoint Energy publicly when required, including serving as a spokesperson, participating in media interviews, and engaging community members during meetings and events.
Participate in the after-hours media response rotation.
Organize and coordinate media and public speaking preparation for executives, managers, and employees who may represent the company before the media, opinion leaders, industry groups, or other external audiences.
Oversee the development and production of various communication materials, including press releases, fact sheets, articles, presentations, speeches, videos, email communications, intranet content, brochures, posters, digital signage, and related materials.
Participate in the company's emergency communications response team and work within the Incident Command System when required.
Support crisis communications efforts and be prepared to work extended hours at CenterPoint Energy facilities during emergency situations.
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or another closely related field.
Required Experience and Skills
At least seven years of professional communications experience involving service as an organizational or corporate spokesperson.
Demonstrated experience developing and delivering integrated communications across multiple channels.
Experience taking the lead on significant business issues or challenges, including analyzing complex information and presenting recommendations to management.
Experience serving as a project leader or participating in task forces involving matters with substantial business impact.
Proven ability to develop communication materials such as press releases, corporate statements, key messages, talking points, speeches, and related content.
Experience providing communications support to senior executives and leadership teams within a corporate environment.
Demonstrated success in creating and implementing strategic communications programs.
Experience managing enterprise-wide or large-scale change communication initiatives.
Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and storytelling abilities.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage several complex assignments simultaneously.
