The company is recognized for its commitment to safety, quality, customer relationships, innovation, and employee growth. Moss is seeking a Staff Accountant I to support its accounting operations in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Position Overview
The Staff Accountant I will support the Finance team by handling general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, invoice processing, and other accounting activities. The role requires close collaboration with various departments to maintain accurate financial records and contribute to timely financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Complete general ledger reconciliations for assigned accounts and business divisions.
Work with department leaders to verify that financial transactions are complete, accurate, and properly recorded.
Review vendor statements and communicate with suppliers to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Prepare and record journal entries as required.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities while following established closing deadlines.
Review balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy and identify trends or significant variances.
Provide analysis and explanations for financial fluctuations when needed.
Process invoices accurately and within required timelines.
Prepare and maintain accounting memos documenting financial treatments, reconciliations, and compliance with company procedures.
Create and update Standard Operating Procedures to improve consistency and efficiency within accounting processes.
Review company credit card transactions and confirm that expenses are coded according to policy.
Reconcile and monitor deposits, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts receivable, accruals, reserves, and other assigned accounts.
Respond to accounting questions from internal teams and conduct research on accounting matters.
Participate in special projects and provide financial analysis or other accounting support as assigned.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by management.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or at least three years of relevant accounting or administrative support experience.
Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounting standards, and month-end closing procedures.
Construction industry experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Ability to explain reconciliation issues and financial findings clearly to department leaders and senior team members.
Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with multiple departments to resolve transaction discrepancies.
Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability when reviewing reconciliations and supporting documentation.
Ability to organize competing priorities and meet deadlines in a high-volume accounting environment.
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities while incorporating guidance from senior accounting staff.
Collaborative approach with a focus on resolving problems and completing tasks efficiently.
