FRENCH AND MUSIC TEACHER

1. Role Overview

The French and Music Teacher will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering high-quality learning experiences in both French and Music. The role requires the teacher to work in accordance with the School curriculum while applying the principles and approaches of Waldorf pedagogy.

The successful candidate will support learners in developing their knowledge, skills, participation, and achievement in both subject areas. The position will involve lesson planning, preparation of learning activities and teaching resources, learner assessment, curriculum development, participation in School events, and continuous professional development.

The teacher will also contribute to the wider life of the School by preparing learners for concerts, performances, festivals, assemblies, and other School activities. The role therefore requires effective teaching skills together with the ability to support learners in both language and music education.

2. French and Music Lesson Planning and Delivery

Plan, prepare, and deliver effective French and Music lessons that meet the requirements of the School curriculum and reflect Waldorf pedagogical principles.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning lessons that are appropriate to the age and learning needs of learners.

• Preparing effectively for French and Music lessons to ensure that learning activities are well structured and purposeful.

• Delivering engaging French lessons in accordance with the School curriculum.

• Delivering Music lessons that support learners’ musical development and participation.

• Applying Waldorf pedagogical principles appropriately within French and Music teaching.

• Developing learning activities that are suitable for the learners’ age and level of development.

• Ensuring that teaching activities provide appropriate opportunities for learners to participate and develop their abilities.

• Adapting lesson activities and resources to support effective learning.

• Maintaining appropriate preparation and organisation for all lessons.

• Supporting learners in developing their knowledge and skills in both French and Music.

The teacher should ensure that lessons are delivered to a high standard and that learning activities remain aligned with the School’s curriculum and pedagogical approach.

3. Curriculum Planning and Continuous Improvement

Participate actively in the planning, review, and ongoing development of the French and Music curricula.

Responsibilities include:

• Contributing to the planning of French and Music curriculum content.

• Participating in curriculum review activities.

• Reviewing existing curriculum approaches and learning activities where required.

• Contributing ideas and input towards the continuous improvement of French and Music education.

• Ensuring that curriculum planning remains appropriate for learners and consistent with the School’s curriculum.

• Supporting the integration of Waldorf pedagogical principles within relevant curriculum activities.

• Participating in discussions and planning activities relating to the development of French and Music teaching.

The role requires an active contribution to curriculum development rather than focusing solely on classroom teaching. The teacher should therefore be prepared to participate in the review and improvement of the subjects they teach.

4. School Events, Performances and Festivals

Prepare learners to participate confidently and effectively in concerts, performances, festivals, assemblies, and other School events.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing learners for musical performances and other School events.

• Supporting learners as they prepare for concerts and performances.

• Organising and coordinating relevant French and Music activities connected with School events.

• Helping learners develop the necessary skills and confidence to participate in performances.

• Supporting rehearsals and preparation for festivals and assemblies.

• Contributing to other School events where French and Music participation is required.

• Ensuring that learners are adequately prepared for their roles in School activities.

Participation in School events will form an important part of the role and will require the teacher to support learners beyond regular classroom lessons.

5. Lesson Plans, Learning Activities and Teaching Resources

Develop age-appropriate lesson plans, learning activities, and teaching resources for French and Music.

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing lesson plans that are appropriate to learners’ ages and learning levels.

• Developing suitable learning activities for both French and Music.

• Preparing teaching resources that support effective classroom instruction.

• Ensuring that teaching materials are relevant to the planned learning activities.

• Developing and organising resources required for lessons and other learning activities.

• Maintaining suitable teaching materials in an organised and accessible manner.

• Reviewing and updating teaching resources where necessary.

• Ensuring that teaching materials support the School curriculum and the relevant Waldorf pedagogical principles.

The teacher should maintain an appropriate collection of teaching materials and resources to support consistent and effective delivery of French and Music lessons.

6. Learner Participation, Development and Assessment

Monitor and document learner participation, development, and achievement in both French and Music.

Key responsibilities include:

• Recording learner participation in French and Music activities.

• Monitoring learner development across both subjects.

• Recording learner achievement and progress.

• Maintaining appropriate assessment information.

• Preparing assessment summaries within the agreed timelines.

• Preparing learner reports accurately and submitting them within the required timelines.

• Ensuring that assessment information provides an appropriate record of learner development and achievement.

• Using available learner information to support the ongoing planning and delivery of French and Music lessons.

Accurate and timely assessment records will support the School’s understanding of learner development and provide appropriate information on progress and achievement.

7. Music and Instrumental Teaching

The successful candidate should be able to teach Music and demonstrate the ability to support instrumental learning.

Relevant instrumental skills include the ability to teach instruments such as:

• Piano

• Violin

• Recorder

• Cello

• Other string instruments

The teacher should be able to incorporate appropriate instrumental teaching into Music education and support learners in developing their musical abilities.

8. Professional Development

Engage in continuous professional development to strengthen teaching practice and remain current in relevant areas of education.

Particular focus should be given to:

• Waldorf Education.

• Language teaching.

• Music education.

The teacher is expected to participate in professional development activities that contribute to continued growth in teaching practice. Ongoing learning should support the teacher’s ability to deliver effective French and Music education and to apply relevant approaches within the School’s Waldorf educational context.

9. Educational and Professional Requirements

The successful candidate should meet the following requirements:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or another relevant teaching qualification from a recognised institution.

• Valid registration with the Teachers Service Commission.

• At least three years of relevant teaching experience.

• Demonstrated ability to teach both French and Music.

• Ability to teach musical instruments, including piano, violin, recorder, cello, or other string instruments.

The candidate should therefore have an appropriate educational qualification, valid professional registration, relevant teaching experience, and demonstrated competence in both areas of teaching.
