Position Overview
The Youth Networker plays a key role in advancing meaningful youth participation, leadership, and engagement across the Africa Region. Working within the Membership Support & Development Team, the role supports the growth and strengthening of the Youth Action Movement (YAM) while promoting youth-centered approaches throughout Member Associations (MAs).
This position focuses on empowering young people to actively influence programmes, advocacy initiatives, governance structures, and accountability mechanisms. The successful candidate will collaborate with youth networks, Member Associations, regional colleagues, and global teams to strengthen youth leadership, expand opportunities for participation, and ensure the voices of young people—particularly those from marginalized and underrepresented communities—are reflected in organizational decision-making.
Designed as a development opportunity for an emerging young professional, this role offers valuable experience in programme coordination, advocacy, partnership development, youth engagement, and regional collaboration within a leading international organization committed to advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
Key Responsibilities
1. Youth Leadership & Network Development
Support the development and strengthening of the Youth Action Movement (YAM) across the Africa Region.
Assist Member Associations in establishing and strengthening inclusive youth networks.
Promote youth-led programming and meaningful youth participation across regional initiatives.
Support YAM in developing, implementing, and monitoring annual work plans.
Encourage active participation of young people in organizational governance and decision-making processes.
Foster youth leadership pathways that build future leaders across the Federation.
2. Programme Coordination & Youth Engagement
Coordinate youth-focused programmes and activities that promote Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
Support the integration of youth perspectives into regional programmes, workshops, campaigns, and organizational initiatives.
Facilitate youth participation in regional and global youth forums, consultations, and networking events.
Assist in planning and delivering youth engagement activities that strengthen collaboration among Member Associations.
Promote innovative approaches that increase youth involvement across organizational programmes.
Monitor programme activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Advocacy & Youth Participation
Promote meaningful youth participation in advocacy campaigns and policy initiatives.
Amplify the voices of young people in regional advocacy efforts and organizational communications.
Support youth-led accountability initiatives that strengthen transparency and participation.
Collaborate with advocacy teams to ensure youth priorities are reflected in policy discussions and campaigns.
Encourage participation of marginalized and underrepresented youth in advocacy initiatives.
Contribute to the advancement of youth-centered action across the Africa Region.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
Build productive relationships with Member Associations, youth networks, civil society organizations, and community groups.
Collaborate with regional and global teams to strengthen youth engagement initiatives.
Support partnerships that advance youth leadership, SRHR, and social justice.
Facilitate communication between youth representatives and organizational leadership.
Participate in meetings, workshops, consultations, and stakeholder engagement activities.
Promote collaboration across multicultural and multilingual teams.
5. Capacity Building & Mentorship
Support initiatives that strengthen youth leadership skills across the Federation.
Assist in coordinating mentorship opportunities for young leaders.
Facilitate learning sessions, workshops, and capacity-building activities.
Share resources and best practices that strengthen youth participation.
Encourage peer learning and collaboration among youth networks.
Support the development of leadership opportunities for young people across Member Associations.
6. Safeguarding, Inclusion & Diversity
Promote safe, inclusive, and respectful participation for all young people.
Support implementation of safeguarding policies and reporting procedures.
Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist practices throughout youth programmes.
Encourage participation of marginalized, vulnerable, and underrepresented groups.
Promote gender equality, youth empowerment, and social justice across all activities.
Ensure youth engagement activities are conducted in accordance with organizational safeguarding standards.
7. Communications & Knowledge Sharing
Support communication initiatives that highlight youth achievements and success stories.
Assist in preparing reports, presentations, newsletters, and programme updates.
Utilize digital collaboration tools and social media platforms to engage youth audiences.
Share lessons learned, best practices, and innovative ideas across regional teams.
Maintain accurate programme documentation and activity records.
Contribute to organizational learning through research and knowledge management.
8. Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Monitor progress of youth engagement initiatives and network activities.
Collect and analyze programme information to support reporting and decision-making.
Prepare activity reports and contribute to donor and organizational reporting requirements.
Identify opportunities to strengthen youth participation and programme effectiveness.
Recommend improvements that enhance youth engagement and leadership development.
Perform any other duties assigned in support of organizational objectives.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, International Development, Youth Development, Human Rights, Gender Studies, Communications, or another related field.
Experience
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
Experience working with youth-led organizations, community groups, civil society organizations, or programmes that promote youth leadership and participation.
Demonstrated commitment to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), gender equality, youth empowerment, and social justice.
Experience engaging and mobilizing diverse groups of young people, including marginalized and underrepresented communities.
Experience supporting programme coordination, advocacy, community engagement, or youth development initiatives.
Experience working within multicultural, multilingual, or international environments is an added advantage.
